5 Holiday Secrets about Monica Ropal

Today’s five holiday secrets are from Monica Ropal, author of The Body of Cooper McCay.

Favorite Holiday Drink: Pumpkin Egg Nog. One word: YUM

I know, I know. It sounds gross. But it’s lovely. I think the sweetness with a little milk and then sprinkle it with “pumpkin spice” on top. And you can buy it in the grocery store so there’s none of that Russian Roulette with Salmonella! YAY!

Favorite Christmas Movies: I’m not into every made for t.v. movie with a Christmas theme, but I do have my list of must-see Christmas movies as December rolls around. My favorite is Scrooged with Bill Murray. He plays it with just the right amount of slapstick, sardonic humor, and emotion.  . . . and just under the buzzer I have to sneak in It’s A Wonderful Life. It don’t care that what anyone says. Waterworks. Every. Year.

Favorite Holiday Treat: Has to be the Russian Tea Cakes. My German Grandma Hilde would make these every year. And don’t even get me started with the “I don’t like walnuts” They need the walnuts! And don’t skimp on the powdered sugar!

Favorite Christmas Song: God Rest Ye Merry Gentleman/We Three Kings . . . by Barenaked Ladies feat. Sarah McLachlan. Oh Man! With that slapping bass, acoustic guitar and Sara-freaking-McLachlan?! You’re going to want to head on over to iTunes right quick because this is a must for your holiday mix. You are making a holiday mix this year, right? I know I am. My relatives always appreciate it. ;)

I’m cheating again, but I can’t finish out #4 without mentioning my favorite band Pentatonix. This a cappella group is getting a lot of crazy attention for their new YouTube video of Little Drummer Boy but I’m still jamming with last years “Carol of the Bells”

Check it out.

On my Christmas list: Okay, serious 80’s nerd action going on here but I NEED to have a Lego DeLorean on my shelf. Yes. From Back to the Future. Yes. Lego. It even comes will mini figures of Doc and Marty with a skateboard. How cute is that? I’m dusting off a space right now.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!
